The name "Pieris" is derived from the concept of the Pierian Spring, which has weaved its way through art for millennia, starting with the Greeks.  Certain springs were sacred, thought to be the sources of inspiration, purification, and knowledge.  Over the centuries, poets, singers, and artist immortalized the concept, reviving it every hundred years or so.
